Thompson & Knight represents private and public employers in all aspects of the employment relationship. Our clients include small employers and Fortune 100 companies, encompassing the Firm's broad industry range.

Our attorneys have the experience and credentials necessary to advise clients and represent them effectively and efficiently in employment disputes. Thompson & Knight received top national rankings in the categories of Employment Law-Management and Litigation-Labor & Employment in the 2015 "Best Law Firms" directory, published by U.S. News - Best Lawyers®. The Firm is ranked among top firms in Texas for Labor & Employment by Chambers USA 2014, which notes the attorneys are "experts in their area" and "very responsive." Partner Stephen F. Fink was named the 2013 Dallas Litigation-Labor & Employment "Lawyer of the Year" by The Best Lawyers in America® and both he and Elizabeth A. Schartz were selected as 2014 "Leaders in their Field" by Chambers USA, published by Chambers & Partners.

We help our clients navigate the complex and extensive regulatory system applicable to employers by representing management in employment law litigation, internal and agency investigations and enforcement actions, and compliance matters. Our attorneys partner with clients to anticipate and manage the multitude of risks presented by the modern workforce, including through the development and modification of workplace policies, training programs, and practical advice on specific employee complaints and contemplated employment actions. We draft and litigate noncompetition and related covenants. We work closely with the Firm's employee benefits and tax lawyers in preparing executive employment, compensation, and severance agreements and arrangements, and we prosecute and defend legal actions based on those agreements and arrangements.

Our lawyers help clients who wish to resolve employment disputes through pre-litigation negotiation, mediation, or other non-litigation dispute-resolution approaches. In court we are resourceful, experienced, and efficient advocates who aggressively try cases and brief and argue appeals without hesitation when necessary but who focus on achieving the client's goals without the need for potentially expensive and time-consuming litigation.
