T&K Receives 2008 Obelisk Award
Dallas - The global law firm of Thompson & Knight LLP has been named the recipient of the 2008 Obelisk Award for Arts Partnership by the North Texas Business for Culture and the Arts (NTBCA). Specifically, Thompson & Knight was acknowledged for its generous, long-term support of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra (DSO).
"We are honored to be recognized for our support of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and other area arts organizations, and we look forward to continuing our support of the arts community," says Pete Riley, the Firm's Managing Partner. "The Firm's upcoming Dallas office move to One Arts Plaza is an extension of our unsurpassed commitment to, and involvement with, the city of Dallas and the Arts District."
Thompson & Knight's relationship with the DSO spans for decades and includes former Managing Partner Alex F. Weisberg serving as Director of the Dallas Symphony Society (the predecessor to the Dallas Symphony Orchestra) in the early 1900s.
Today, Thompson & Knight sponsors the DSO's Casual Friday's series. Partner John R. Cohn currently serves as a Member of the Board of Governors and has supported the DSO for a number of years. Senior Counsel P. Mike McCullough is on the Board of Directors for the Dallas Symphony Foundation and has long been active in various leadership positions with the DSO.
The Arts Partnership Award recognizes businesses that have demonstrated leadership and provided outstanding overall support for at least three years to at least one North Texas arts and cultural organization. Thompson & Knight previously won this award in 1994. The Firm will be presented the 2008 award at this year's Obelisk Awards Gala on June 7, which also marks the NTBCA's 20th anniversary.
