Law Students

Thompson & Knight's Summer Associate program is our principal source of hiring new associates. Our program is ranked #32 in the nation in The American Lawyer's 2007 Summer Associate Survey and is the only Texas-based firm to be ranked among the Top 75 programs in the country. The Firm is also ranked first in Houston and fourth in Dallas for our 2007 Summer Associate programs.

We hire Summer Associates with the expectation that they ultimately become Partner in the Firm. This commitment to the long-term development of our professionals is consistent with our values and culture. We have a focused and collegial environment in which each individual can flourish, through participating both as a team member and, in certain situations, as the individual legal representative of a client's needs.

During the summer, a mix of work assignments and social engagements afford an excellent opportunity for students to further their legal education by participating in a law firm environment and becoming fully acquainted with Thompson & Knight. During their six to ten weeks with the Firm, Summer Associates are given the opportunity to work in two areas of practice and are encouraged to divide the summer with other firms. Each Summer Associate is given Partner and Associate advisors who assist with their work assignments, provide feedback on work product, and ensure that they have a rewarding experience with us.

We offer summer associate programs for law students in our Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, and Houston offices. Thompson & Knight employs 2L law students at a weekly salary of $3,080.
