Dallas - The law firm of Thompson & Knight LLP is pleased to announce Craig C. Carpenter has been selected as a member of the SMU Cyber Security Advisory Board. Membership is by invitation only and is based upon an individual’s personal and professional accomplishments. Mr. Carpenter will serve a one-year term.
Mr. Carpenter is an Associate in Thompson & Knight’s Intellectual Property Practice Group and a member of the Firm’s Data Privacy and Cybersecurity initiative. His practice focuses on intellectual property, technology, and data privacy and security law. He provides an innovative, holistic approach to the legal challenges his clients face by integrating all aspects of intellectual property when reviewing a company’s technology and branding needs. Mr. Carpenter’s unique combination of technology, branding, and data privacy expertise enables him to develop practical solutions for innovative clients across a wide range of industries – from individuals and start-ups to multi-nationals.
Recognized for his legal expertise, Mr. Carpenter has been selected for inclusion in Texas Rising Stars® by Thomson Reuters (2016-2017) for his intellectual property practice. He frequently participates in speaking engagements, including two recent engagements for the SMU Digital Accelerator™ (“the Accelerator”). In addition to his involvement with the SMU Cyber Security Advisory Board, Mr. Carpenter is an active participant in numerous professional and civic organizations. For example, he serves as a member of Dallas Bar Association - Intellectual Property Section where he is the Chair of the New Lawyers Committee, and he also is a drafting team member with The Sedona Conference Working Group 11 on Data Security and Privacy Liability. He attended SMU Dedman School of Law where he received a J.D., cum laude, in 2012.
As a member of the SMU Cyber Security Advisory Board, Mr. Carpenter will advise the SMU Digital Accelerator Cyber Security Certificate Program, which provides professionals with the skills to create sound risk management strategies for their companies. The Accelerator is designed to train working professionals to analyze, build, and manage projects through the digital landscape. The program is interdisciplinary and includes professionals from many different fields, including marketing, communications, sales, IT, and operations. The classes are fast-paced, interactive, and provide practical skills that are immediately applicable in the workplace.
Companies send employees to the Accelerator with a pre-approved project or initiative they would like to see further developed and implemented, and then participants in the Accelerator develop a detailed project roadmap for the company.
