Bruce Sostek focuses his practice on intellectual property, technology, complex commercial litigation, and IP and business counseling. He has tried cases involving patent, trademark, and copyright infringement; theft of trade secrets; unfair competition; and other intellectual property concerns in federal courts throughout the country, at the International Trade Commission, and on appeal to the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals. He is actively involved in media, sports, and entertainment, having represented several prominent area sports teams. Bruce also counsels clients on the identification, valuation, licensing, and litigation of intellectual property assets and on how to use intellectual property to advance strategic business objectives; in addition, he is a member of the Firm's Data Privacy and Cybersecurity team.
Bruce is a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers and has been listed among the "500 Leading Lawyers in America" by Lawdragon. He was named the Dallas Litigation-Patent "Lawyer of the Year” in 2017 and 2013 by The Best Lawyers in America® and is regularly listed in Chambers USA "Leaders in Their Field," Texas Super Lawyers®, and as a Best Lawyer in Dallas by D Magazine. According to clients quoted in Chambers USA 2016, Bruce is “brilliant in the courtroom, gives good advice, and gains the confidence of his clients.” IAM Patent 1000 2016, praises Bruce as a “supremely skilled litigator” and “devoted advocate” who “never fails to make you feel as though you are his only client.” He is an Adjunct Professor of Law at Southern Methodist University School of Law, where he teaches a course in patent litigation, and is a regular speaker and author on a variety of intellectual property topics.
