Client Alert: Updated ERISA Disability Claims Regulations Will Require Many Plan Sponsors to Act

The Department of Labor’s updated disability claims procedure regulations are set to become applicable for claims for disability benefits filed under an ERISA plan after April 1, 2018.  As a result of these regulatory changes, certain actions should be taken by plan sponsors of any ERISA plan that conditions benefits on the plan’s finding of disability.  This Client Alert describes the new requirements, which plans are affected, and action items for plan sponsors.
