Thompson & Knight represents private and public employers in all aspects of the employment relationship. Our clients include small employers and Fortune 100 companies, encompassing the Firm's broad industry range.

Our attorneys have the experience and credentials necessary to advise clients and represent them effectively and efficiently in employment disputes. Thompson & Knight received a top national ranking in the category of Employment Law-Management in the 2019 "Best Law Firms" directory, published by U.S. News - Best Lawyers®. Additionally, the Firm was ranked among top firms nationwide in Labor and Employment Disputes by The Legal 500 US 2016. According to clients quoted in the directory, Thompson & Knight  “provides quality advice and assists with all legal matters in the most cost-effective manner,” and the team’s “in-depth understanding extends to Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Sarbanes-Oxley, and FLSA collective actions.”

The Firm is also ranked among top firms in Texas for Labor & Employment in the prestigious Chambers USA 2018 legal directory published by Chambers and Partners. Thompson & Knight is described as “a respected firm for employment discrimination, contract, and wage and hour cases, alongside other employment issues,” and clients quoted in the directory commented that our employment and labor attorneys are “extremely knowledgeable in their field and provide excellent advice.” Eight of our Employment and Labor lawyers are Board Certified in Labor and Employment Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

We help our clients navigate the complex and extensive regulatory system applicable to employers by representing management in employment law litigation, internal and agency investigations and enforcement actions, and compliance matters. Our attorneys partner with clients to anticipate and manage the multitude of risks presented by the modern workforce, including through the development and modification of workplace policies, training programs, and practical advice on specific employee complaints and contemplated employment actions. We draft and litigate noncompetition and related covenants. We work closely with the Firm's employee benefits and tax lawyers in preparing executive employment, compensation, and severance agreements and arrangements, and we prosecute and defend legal actions based on those agreements and arrangements.

Our lawyers help clients who wish to resolve employment disputes through pre-litigation negotiation, mediation, or other non-litigation dispute-resolution approaches. In court we are resourceful, experienced, and efficient advocates who aggressively try cases and brief and argue appeals without hesitation when necessary but who focus on achieving the client's goals without the need for potentially expensive and time-consuming litigation.
