Janelle L. Davis is a trial lawyer and trusted counselor who represents clients before federal and state trial courts. She has tried numerous jury cases, in both civil and criminal court, and she has advised clients on matters involving antitrust, advertising, aviation, products liability, and other complex business litigation and complex commercial disputes, including class actions and regulatory compliance.  Janelle has extensive experience counseling clients on how to reduce legal risk and in managing litigation, including coordination with national and discovery counsel, expert witnesses, and trial counsel.

In her role as Assistant General Counsel, Janelle supervises the review and conflicts analysis for all new business and lateral hires.  She also works in connection with the Firm’s Information Technology and Cybersecurity groups to manage data privacy and cybersecurity issues, as well as the Firm’s response plan for these issues. 

Experience

  • Provided advice regarding legality of claims made in advertising materials and on social media
  • Prepared model social media policy for company's handling of employee and consumer social media activity
  • Provided advice regarding contract terms to transactional attorneys during negotiation of loan agreements
  • Served as jurisdictional counsel managing large docket of cases in Texas, Oklahoma, and Nebraska for pharmaceutical company in national hormone therapy litigation
  • Evaluation of oil and gas agreement and research and analysis regarding possibility of breach of contract claims under the agreement and likelihood of success of same
  • Research regarding preferential rights and assist with preparation of briefing related to temporary injunction to prevent the purchase of oil and gas assets

  • Represented a manufacturer in direct and indirect purchaser putative class actions and federal regulatory proceedings regarding an alleged conspiracy to fix prices

  • Represented food product manufacturer in multiple alleged nationwide and statewide class actions related to false and misleading advertising for various products

  • Representation of foreign-state oil company in parallel arbitration and lawsuit proceedings arising out of fraudulently obtained settlement agreement 

  • Negotiated favorable settlement of personal injury case against U.S. airline in case involving allegations of negligence in maintenance of airport jet bridge

  • Defended national men’s footwear and accessories company against negligence, strict products liability, and breach of warranty claims involving alleged injuries resulting from the wear of company’s shoes

  • Research and briefing regarding recoverable damages in products liability case involving engine manufacturer; summary judgment obtained for manufacturer

  • Assisted in the representation of brake manufacturer in multi-week toxic tort jury trial where jury found that brakes did not cause plaintiff’s disease and were not defective, negligently designed, manufactured, or marketed

  • Representation of medical device manufacturer in regional cases involving mesh products

  • Representation of pharmaceutical company in national hormone therapy litigation

  • Representation of private placement agent in suit by investors alleging fraud, negligent misrepresentation, and Texas Securities Act claims

  • Representation of disabled inmate in federal constitutional case based on conditions of confinement

  • Obtained defense verdict in representation of major U.S. air carrier in federal court jury trial arising out of wrongful death claim brought by family of decedent
