Client Alert: U.S. Rail Regulator Proposes New Rules for Shipper Rate Cases

On September 17, the U.S. Surface Transportation Board, the federal agency that regulates almost all railroad economic matters, including rates, service, and facilities, issued proposed rules to streamline and expedite the process for rail shippers to bring a rate dispute. The two proposed rules could affect railroads and rail shippers with regard to shipping rate challenges and are designed to expedite the process and make such challenges less cumbersome.
