“5 new sex assault victims accuse Austin area officials of failing them”
Five women have joined a class action suit accusing Travis County and Austin officials of not adequately investigating or prosecuting sexual assault cases, according to new court filings.
The women join three other plaintiffs who in June filed the suit against Travis County, the city of Austin, Travis County District Attorney Margaret Moore, former district attorney Rosemary Lehmberg, Austin police Chief Brian Manley, former chief Art Acevedo and Travis County Sheriff Sally Hernandez.
After the original suit was filed, attorney Jennifer Ecklund said the new plaintiffs reached out to her firm with similar stories, saying that Austin’s criminal justice system failed them. The American-Statesman is not naming the plaintiffs due to the nature of the allegations.
