“Judge Favors Life Partners’ Trustee in Fraud Trial Against Former CEO Pardo”
A federal judge largely sided with the Life Partners Holdings Inc. trustee in a jury trial against former CEO Brian Pardo and others in a multimillion-dollar fraud scheme.
But Judge Reed O’Connor of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas in Fort Worth denied requests Dec. 29 by both sides seeking a new trial.
They said a new trial was necessary because of inconsistencies in the jury’s June 13 verdict, but O’Connor disagreed.
“We’re obviously pleased with the order on the motion for judgment and we won’t have much additional comment until the final judgment is entered,” said Jennifer Rudenick Ecklund, an attorney with the Thompson & Knight LLP law firm in Dallas, who represents former Life Partners’ trustee Tom Moran.
