It’s also the time when panicked oil and gas executives are more likely to call their lawyers and really listen to what they say.
Whether it’s an M&A transaction, bankruptcy or a messy lawsuit, oil and gas firms definitely need more help with crude oil prices plummeting fast.
“When things are good, no one pays attention to the risks we raise,” said Jeremiah Mayfield, a transactional attorney with Thompson and Knight in Dallas. “When things slow down, I think our role becomes even more invaluable because you have to weather some really unique and challenging circumstances.”
The 36-year-old has advised on all kinds of deals since starting the job nine years ago when he graduated law school at the University of Oklahoma.
Energy is his specialty.
