“LNG industry adding load to Gulf Coast: panel”

Freeport LNG will add about 800 MW of load to the Texas grid when it becomes fully operational, and the first train is to come online in early 2018, Gulf Coast Power Association Spring Conference attendees learned last week.

Originally slated to be an LNG regasification terminal, Freeport LNG’s liquefaction plant is just one of several large industrial developments – totaling almost $23 billion – along the Gulf Coast, many of which were sited to exploit the growth in the region’s shale oil and gas development, said Katie Coleman, a partner in Thompson & Knight and spokeswoman for Texas Industrial Energy Consumers.

At the conference, Coleman moderated a panel discussion Wednesday entitled, “The new industrial revolution.”
