Katie Coleman Quoted in S&P Global Platts on ERCOT’s Market Performance

“ERCOT’s market performance draws generators, utilities, consumers’ praise”

Representatives of generators, retail electricity providers and large
industrial consumers extolled the performance of the Electric
Reliability Council of Texas market during extremely tight conditions
this summer to state regulators Friday, and expressed optimism for
further improvement.

…Katie Coleman, a Thompson & Knight attorney who represents
Texas Industrial Energy Consumers, praised ERCOT for providing what
no other power market in the world has accomplished so far: “a lean,
efficient market that saves consumers money,” which has happened
by “keeping the financial incentives correlated with peak demand.”
“The threat of losing out at $9,000/MWh price – or having to pay it
to meet a forward commitment – incentivizes some really strong
performance,” Coleman said.
