“Southwest Wins Atty Fees For Patent Re-Examination Period”

A California federal judge on Wednesday awarded Southwest Airlines Co. $387,182 in attorneys fees and costs from a software company that accused it of infringing a data-sorting patent, including for costs incurred during a U.S. Patent and Trademark Office review that ultimately deemed the patent invalid.

Southwest is represented by John Giust of Wang Hartmann Gibbs & Cauley PLC and Max Ciccarelli and Justin S. Cohen of Thompson & Knight LLP.

The case is Deep Sky Software Inc. v. Southwest Airllines Co., case number 3:10-cv-01234, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California.
