“Madison High School to offer mock trial class next school year”
There’s no debate: Madison High School is getting its own mock trial class next school year.
Nicole Williams, a partner at Thompson and Knight, said mock trial offers many benefits to students in addition to preparing them for potential law careers.
“Mock trial lets students become better at public speaking, thinking on their feet, and analyzing issues,” Williams said.
Williams said that offering mock trial as an elective class will allow students to learn more and cover more ground.
“We want to make this a class that is meaningful for the students and helps them decide what they can do or see pathways they would not have otherwise seen,” Williams said.
Williams and other attorneys at Thompson and Knight, which offers summer internships to select Madison students, will teach the class along with Kay Meadows, the Madison High School mock trial faculty coach.
“This is really an opportunity for Madison to have a law professor, for free, teach our students’ law classes,” Meadows said. “This is a wonderful opportunity for our students.”
