Dallas – Thompson & Knight LLP is pleased to announce that Texas Tech University’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources (“CASNR”) has created the Womble Pre-Law Endowed Scholarship, named for Thompson & Knight attorney Bill R. Womble. Created by the Dr. Bob and Jean Smith Foundation of Dallas, funds generated by the endowment will be used to assist CASNR students who are interested in attending law school.
The endowed scholarship was established in honor of Mr. Womble in appreciation for his loyal, dedicated, and continuous service as legal counsel to the Dr. Bob and Jean Smith Foundation of Dallas, and its predecessor Doctors Hospital of Dallas, for more than 40 years. The scholarship also recognizes his devotion to excellence, special expertise, and professional accomplishments in corporate, securities, and business law.
Mr. Womble is Of Counsel in the Corporate and Securities Practice Group of Thompson & Knight’s Dallas office. He focuses his practice on business and business-related issues, including business planning, formation, and restructuring; contract negotiations; securities laws and compliance; executive employment matters; and general legal advice for corporate, partnership, and related matters.
A descendant of a Texas Panhandle pioneer family, Mr. Womble was raised as a part of a large farming and ranching family based in Hutchinson and Hansford counties. He attended Texas Tech and graduated with a B.S., with honors, in Agricultural Economics in 1960. He received a J.D. from The University of Texas School of Law in 1963. Mr. Womble was as a member of the National Board of Directors of the Texas Tech Alumni Association (1992-1998), and was recognized as a distinguished alumnus by Texas Tech University and the Texas Tech Alumni Association (2001).
