DALLAS — For the eighth consecutive year, Thompson & Knight LLP has awarded its Law Preview Scholarships to 10 diverse students who will enter their respective law schools this fall. The 2019 scholarship recipients who will attend Vanderbilt University Law School are Brooke Bowerman, Lauren Donnelly, Chibunkem Ezenekwe, Curtis Jones, and Miles Malbrough. The recipients who will attend the University of Houston Law Center are Eleanor Gilbert, Aletsey Hinojosa, Reika Nakayama, Caroline Seidel, and Sophie Truong.
To be eligible for a Thompson & Knight Law Preview Scholarship, applicants must be enrolled to begin classes in the fall at either the University of Houston Law Center or Vanderbilt University Law School and a member of a racial, ethnic, or gender group that is historically underrepresented in the legal profession, or a member of the LGBT community.
Scholarship recipients attend an intensive six-day Law Preview prep course taught by distinguished faculty that helps students prepare for the first year of law school. During the course, students receive overviews for each core first-year course and learn efficient study skills, unique exam-taking methods, and time management techniques. Courses are offered in various areas of study including civil procedure, constitutional law, contracts, criminal law, property, torts, and legal research and writing.
“Corporations increasingly expect diversity on their legal teams, and law firms realize the value that different perspectives can bring to the table,” said Nichole Dotson-Olajuwon, the Firm’s Chief Diversity Officer. “The Law Preview scholarships are just one of the initiatives we sponsor in support of that goal, and we’re very pleased to award and recognize these outstanding students.”
