DALLAS — Thompson & Knight LLP has awarded its ninth annual Law Preview Scholarships to 10 diverse students, expected to commence their law school education this fall. The 2020 scholarship recipients who will attend the University of Houston Law Center are Ashley Cao, Mallika Dargan, Monica Garza-Hovel, Emily Huang, Jack Lenske, Stephanie Melgar, and Sarah Smati. The recipients who will attend Vanderbilt University Law School are Tasia Harris, Carolyn Kraft, and Laura Taylor.
“Recognizing the importance of law students achieving their highest potential in law school, we are proud to play a role in the future success of the newest students who will partake in our longstanding scholarship program,” said Nichole Dotson-Olajuwon, the Firm’s Chief Diversity Officer.
Eligibility for the Thompson & Knight Law Preview Scholarship requires applicants to be enrolled to begin classes in the fall at either the University of Houston Law Center or Vanderbilt University Law School and a member of a racial, ethnic, or gender group that is historically underrepresented in the legal profession, or a member of the LGBT community.
Scholarship recipients attend an intensive six-day Law Preview prep course taught by distinguished faculty that helps students prepare for the first year of law school. During the course, students receive overviews for each core first-year course and learn efficient study skills, unique exam-taking methods, and time management techniques. Courses are offered in various areas of study including civil procedure, constitutional law, contracts, criminal law, property, torts, and legal research and writing.
