DALLAS, Texas – For the 10th consecutive year, Thompson & Knight LLP has awarded its annual Law Preview Scholarships to nine diverse students who will begin their formal legal education this fall. The 2021 scholarship recipients who will attend the University of Houston Law Center are Sophie Belton, Muriel Hague, Chandni Jaggi, Justina Lange, Helene Miranda, Dinusha Wijesinghe, and So Yoon. The recipients who will attend Vanderbilt University Law School are Madison Hoover and Bianca Wieck.
“We understand that successful attorneys have access to career opportunities well before embarking on law school and we are proud to have built a pathway for diverse students for the past 10 years,” said Nichole Dotson-Olajuwon, the Firm’s Chief Diversity Officer. “We warmly welcome our newest class of recipients who will receive career advice, networking opportunities, and preparation for their law school through our scholarship program.”
To qualify for the Thompson & Knight Law Preview Scholarship, applicants must be enrolled to begin classes in the fall at either the University of Houston Law Center or Vanderbilt University Law School and a member of a racial, ethnic, or gender group that is historically underrepresented in the legal profession, or a member of the LGBT community.
Scholarship recipients attend an intensive six-day Law Preview prep course taught by distinguished faculty that helps students prepare for the first year of law school. During the course, students receive overviews for each core first-year course and learn efficient study skills, unique exam-taking methods, and time management techniques. Courses are offered in various areas of study including civil procedure, constitutional law, contracts, criminal law, property, torts, and legal research and writing.
