Dallas – Thompson & Knight LLP has awarded its seventh annual Thompson & Knight Law Preview Scholarships to 10 diverse students. The 2018 scholarship recipients are Genesis Garfio, Fariha Jawed, Mercedes Landry, Reagan Metz, Francisco Montalvo, Morgan Morrow, Stephanie Nweke, Sophia Sepulveda, Cesar Udave, and Tabitha Valverde. All of the recipients will enter the University of Houston Law Center this fall.
“The Law Preview program helps equip deserving students with the tools necessary to succeed in law school and beyond,” said Nichole Dotson-Olajuwon, the Firm’s Chief Diversity Officer. “Thompson & Knight is committed to increasing the number of diverse individuals in the legal profession, and this program is one of many important initiatives we sponsor in support of that goal.”
To be eligible for a Thompson & Knight Law Preview Scholarship, applicants must be enrolled to begin classes at the University of Houston Law Center in the fall and a member of a racial, ethnic, or gender group that is historically underrepresented in the legal profession or a member of the LGBT community.
Scholarship recipients attend a six-day, intensive Law Preview prep course taught by distinguished faculty that helps students prepare for the first year of law school. During the course, students receive overviews for each core first-year course and learn efficient study skills, unique exam-taking methods, and time management techniques. Courses are offered in various areas of study including civil procedure, constitutional law, contracts, criminal law, property, torts, and legal research and writing.
