Dallas – The law firm of Thompson & Knight LLP is pleased to announce Mark M. Sloan has been appointed to the SMU Dedman School of Law Executive Board. The board is comprised of approximately 70 distinguished alumni and other legal leaders. He will serve a three-year term, which began on June 1.
As Managing Partner of Thompson & Knight, Mr. Sloan serves as the chief executive in charge of the Firm’s day-to-day operations, including overseeing more than 300 attorneys and 250 legal support and administrative staff members; and as Chairman of the Management Committee, he sets the strategic direction of the Firm. He has nearly 30 years of experience advising clients in various types of real estate lending transactions, real estate acquisitions, dispositions, and real estate development. He has represented lenders in virtually all types of real estate financings, including construction loans, interim bridge loans, permanent loans, mezzanine loans, conduit mortgage backed securities loans (“CMBS” loans), and revolving loan facilities, as well as preferred equity transactions. He has also represented various financial institutions in their capacity as both administrative agent and participant in connection with syndicated loan transactions. Mr. Sloan also has extensive experience in representing lenders in connection with workouts and foreclosures.
Mr. Sloan has been recognized for his outstanding real estate practice by numerous publications including The Best Lawyers In America® by Woodward/White Inc. Actively involved in professional and community organizations, Mr. Sloan is past President and a current member of the Board of Directors for Dickinson Place Charitable Housing Corporation. He is on the Board of Directors for Treasure Street, benefiting Texas Scottish Rite Hospital, and is on the Executive Leadership Team for the 2018 Dallas Heart Walk (benefitting the American Heart Association), serving as Chairman of the 2018 Legal Cup Challenge. He also serves as a member of the Communications Committee for the Dallas Citizens Council, and is a member of the American, Texas, and Dallas Bar Associations.
