“This Texas Judge Gets Five Stars for Tossing Yelp Libel Suit”
A pet sitting company sued a couple who gave the business a one-star review, seeking $1 million in damages for libel and for violating a non-disparagement clause.
On Friday, a state court judge tossed the suit, awarding the couple legal fees and imposing sanctions to deter further suits.
Judge Jim Jordan of the 160th District in Dallas County, you get five stars, which in Yelp speak equals “Woohoo! As good as it gets!”
And Public Citizen and Thompson & Knight, which defended the couple in what is believed to be the first case involving a non-disparagement clause in a consumer contract where a court held the clause unenforceable–you get five stars too.
