Dallas – Thompson & Knight LLP is pleased to announce Debra J. Villarreal has been elected the National Sponsorship Director for Women’s Energy Network (“WEN”), an international organization of professional women who work across the energy value chain. She will serve a two-year term beginning January 1, 2018.
Ms. Villarreal is a Partner in the Oil and Gas Practice Group of Thompson & Knight’s Dallas office. She counsels her clients to maximize gains while minimizing risks in joint ventures and the purchase and sale of oil and gas properties. Her experience extends to all facets of the energy industry.
A frequent writer and speaker on oil and gas topics, she has presented on such topics as joint ventures and gas storage for both the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation and the Energy & Mineral Law Foundation. Ms. Villarreal co-wrote the U.S. chapter of a book entitled China Going Global and presented a seminar on Chinese outbound investment in Beijing in conjunction with the launch of the book.
Regularly recognized for her legal work, she has been named Dallas Oil & Gas Law “Lawyer of the Year” in The Best Lawyers in America® by Woodward/White Inc. (2014; 2017) and selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America (2010-2018). Ms. Villarreal has also been included in Best Lawyers in Dallas by D Magazine (2014, 2016-2017) and in Who’s Who in Energy by the Dallas Business Journal (2014).
In addition to her role as National Sponsorship Director for WEN, Ms. Villarreal is a founding member, former President, and current Advisory Board Member of the WEN, North Texas Chapter. Actively involved in a number of professional organizations, she is a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation; a member of the American, Texas, and Dallas Bar Associations; a member of the Energy & Mineral Law Foundation; a member of the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators; and a member of the Texas Bar College. Also, she serves as a member of the Board of Directors for Bryan’s House, a non-profit organization that provides medically managed child care, respite care, and community-based, family-centered support services for children and their families.
WEN currently has over 4,500 members across 15 chapters and endeavors to be the premier organization that educates, attracts, retains, and develops professional women working across the energy value chain.
