Dallas – Thompson & Knight LLP today announced the addition of Abbey B. Garber as a Partner in the Tax Practice Group of the Firm’s Dallas office.
“Abbey’s more than 30 years of experience with the Office of Chief Counsel at the Internal Revenue Service make him a valuable addition to our nationally recognized tax controversy practice,” said Todd D. Keator, Thompson & Knight’s Tax Practice Leader. “As the IRS seeks to increase its enforcement activity and focuses its resources more on partnership audits, we look forward to leveraging Abbey’s unique skill set and knowledge base to serve our clients’ needs.”
Mr. Garber began his career with the IRS as an attorney in 1987 and has tried cases of all sizes in Tax Court, earning significant favorable opinions in fraud, tax shelter, and many other areas. He went on to serve as Managing Counsel in Dallas and later as Area Counsel for the Small Business/Self Employed division, where he was responsible for tax litigation in Texas and Louisiana for individuals and estates of all sizes, as well as corporations and partnerships with assets up to ten million dollars. Mr. Garber also has substantial experience in IRS collection matters. He received his J.D. from The University of Texas School of Law in 1985 and his B.B.A. in Accounting from The University of Texas at Austin in 1982.
