Experience

Claudio Rodríguez serves as the Firm’s Mexico City Office Leader and focuses his practice on energy and infrastructure matters. With experience in several Latin American markets and more than 16 years in close connection with the energy market in Mexico, he represents international energy companies doing business in Mexico, including with regard to wind, downstream, water, solar, cogeneration, combined-cycle, pipeline, LNG, nuclear, geothermal, and transmission projects. Claudio is considered by peers and clients as a pragmatic and business-oriented attorney who quickly understands the effects of complex regulation on his clients’ businesses, including those derived from the Mexican Energy Reform and new federal administration criteria.

Claudio has extensive experience representing developers, procurement firms, producers, investors, contractors, suppliers, and multilateral institutions in all phases of the development, M&A, and financing of energy projects. He advises clients regarding complex regulatory issues and project development, EPC, O&M, supply contracts, M&A, services agreements, hydrocarbon transportation agreements, self-supply agreements, and power purchase agreements (PPA) in the power, renewable, and gas sectors.

  • Represented a German fund in the financing of a 30 MW wind farm in the State of Tamaulipas
  • Represented a Brazilian global company in all legal aspects regarding a new ethylene facility in Mexico
  • Represented an American global power company in its Joint Development Agreement for the construction of a combined-cycle facility in Mexico
  • Represented a Mexican conglomerate in the drafting and negotiation of the first ever geothermal development private agreement in Mexico
  • Represented a Mexican infrastructure company in the negotiation of a purchase agreement of wind turbines from a global German-Spanish manufacturer
  • Represented a global Spanish energy company in the legal administration of an IPP agreement
  • Represented a global Spanish energy company in the award of a 300 MW cogeneration agreement from Mexican Federal Electricity Commission
  • Represented a global Spanish power company in the bidding process called by the Mexican Federal Electricity Commission for the construction of a 600-kilometer pipeline
  • Represented a Mexican consortium in the legal strategy and instrumentation of a PPP agreement for the construction of a 100 MW waste-to-energy facility in the State of Hidalgo
  • Represented a Mexican bank in the execution of due diligence for the biggest wind farm in Mexico, which was developed by an Australian investment fund
  • Represented a Korean power company in its claims against a global construction firm as well as regarding the construction of a photovoltaic project in Mexico
  • Represented an Argentinean consortium in the legal strategy to obtain the award under PPP rules of a water treatment facility to supply one of the mayor refineries in Mexico
  • Represented a global Chinese company in the drafting of an Oil Rig Lease Agreement
  • Represented a global Canadian solar company in the drafting and negotiation of long-term lease agreements as needed for the development of solar projects in Mexico
  • Represented a Spanish global infrastructure company in the review and negotiations of EPC agreements for the construction of long-term photovoltaic projects in Mexico awarded as a result of Long-Term Power Auctions
  • Represented a global Spanish construction company in the negotiation of a 230 MW engineering, procurement, and construction agreement for a wind farm in the State of Tamaulipas
