  • Negotiated a highly-favorable settlement on behalf of an oil and gas company for the full amount of damages alleged in the original petition for breach of a joint operating agreement
  • Served as lead counsel for an international publicly traded oil and gas company in defending a surface damage and royalty lawsuit and obtained an order for complete dismissal and full payment of attorney fees from the plaintiff
  • Represented an international oil and gas company in a pending title dispute involving washout of overriding royalty interests and indemnification issues
  • Represented a diversified energy company and obtained a favorable settlement in a royalty underpayment suit
  • Represented an international oil and gas company in defense of a trespass to try title suit and obtained full ratification of the lease and dismissal of suit from the plaintiff
  • Represented an international oil and gas company in a surface access dispute and obtained full permanent injunctive relief requested
  • Represented an international oil and gas company in a lease termination case regarding a multi-million dollar oil and gas lease, secured a jury finding that the lease produced in paying quantities, and prevailed in appeal of supersedeas bond

  • Represented landowners in dozens of electric transmission line routing cases, including appeals to trial courts
  • Represent clients in contested rate cases before the PUC in various types of regulatory disputes, including rate-making proceedings, planning and implementation of transmission line construction, market-power assessments, tariff proceedings, and open-access transmission requirements
  • Represent an oilfield services company in a lawsuit involving claims for breach of contract, fraud, and conspiracy
  • Served as lead counsel for Unocal defending its federal and state royalty audits for its properties in the State of Alaska
  • Represented a major oil company regarding the attempt by the State of Alaska to revoke its leases in the Point Thomson Unit, which are worth hundreds of millions of dollars; overturned the Alaska administrative decisions that would have forfeited those leases
  • Defended producers, pipelines, and a utility company in qui tam actions in federal court in both Wyoming and Texas attacking on an industry-wide basis both the measurement and valuation of royalty payment to the federal government for production of federal lands
  • Represented a major oil and gas company in two separate arbitration cases concerning contested title and environmental defects asserted against former shareholders of a petroleum company
  • Represented a major drilling corporation and several subsidiaries as trial counsel in a multi-billion dollar class action alleging a conspiracy among offshore drillers to fix wages and benefits paid to offshore workers
  • Represented a major oil company in defense of a suit over a contract for the sale of leases and recovery of drilling costs, and subsequently defended the company in a similar matter in Louisiana
  • Represented a producer in State of Alaska audits of gas and crude oil royalties relating to the producer’s Alaska properties
